About Us

Our diverse and growing membership includes individual and organizational supporters from across Illinois who believe the literacy crisis is urgent and solvable.

We strive to improve public policy and funding to better align teacher and administrator preparation, professional development, curricula, and other supports with evidence-based instructional practices.

The Coalition advocated for the "Literacy and Justice for All" bill package passed in 2023, the Illinois State Board of Education "Comprehensive Literacy Plan" adopted in 2024, and will continue to work to improve funding, policies, and support that educators need and deserve.

We have monthly meetings open to all Coalition members, and you can join the next one by signing up for our email list!
